Mermaid Shimmer

I was in the mood to paint some Mermaids the other day. My granddaughter had just finished an underwater silhouette painting with a turtle and some other sea-life in it, so that must be what inspired me to create this.

Mermaid Shimmer - Art Chick Studio

A good portion of the background of this watercolor painting was created with Metallic Accents watercolors by Prima. I love those watercolors because they have a neat shimmer to them--as you'd expect from something metallic. I like the idea of having the background sparkle a bit, but that also makes it challenging to photograph it well. So, you can't see all of the background fish; and one of the darker fish is cut off too since I wasn't paying good enough attention as I snapped the pic. Oh well. The darker parts of the painting are all done with acrylics.

I'm still not actually sure I'm finished with this. It looks unfinished to me. So for now, we'll call this a work in progress. I do like it so far, but sometimes I don't know exactly how I want to finish a painting. So I have to step away from it for awhile and then (hopefully) come back to it at a later time. Do you ever do that?

Mucha-Inspired Mixed Media Girl WIP

After purchasing a wonderful art book on the works of Alphonse Mucha recently, I was inspired to start working on this mixed media girl with the peony in her hair.

She isn't finished yet. I can never seem to get enough time in my studio! So she is a work in progress. But hopefully I'll get a chance to finish her soon.

Poppies and More Poppies

I started a new painting last month of one of my favorite flowers, Poppies. Life has been hectic and full of unexpected and not-so-fun surprises of late, so I haven't had a chance to finish it. But I wanted to share at least a peek of that work in progress.

This so far is a combination of acrylics and colored pencils. The background won't remain black, so this will look a lot different once it's completed. But I like the look of it so far! I'm hoping to get back in the studio soon to get it finished.

Flower Girl

New Work in Progress today in one of my art journals. I'm in love with the whimsical and lovely mixed media girls that Suzi Blu creates. Suzi is one of the reasons I started playing with mixed media. So I'm working on doing more drawings and paintings inspired by Suzi's art and working toward putting my own spin and style into my drawings of girls. So anyway, just thought I'd share my latest effort.

This may become a painting, or it just may live in my art journal indefinitely once it's finished. We'll see how I feel after she is completed. I love her so far though. You may also recall my first mixed media painting I did, called Beauty, was also inspired by the art of Suzi Blu after I read her book, Mixed Media Girls.

If you're curious about the art of the fabulous Suzi Blu, just click on her book image below and that will take you to her website. You will love it!

Suzi has several online classes that you can take, along with a wonderful blog. Every time I visit her blog I get inspired. And her videos are so fun to watch; Suzi is quirky and fun and so positive--it is really fun to watch her videos. And if you're interested in her book please see the image link on the right side of Suzi's blog--it will take you right to her Etsy shop, where you can purchase it, along with some beautiful prints of her work.

I'll post more about my "Flower Girl" when she's finished. :)
