Sunny Flower Mixed Media Painting

Well, it's been a SUPER long time since I've been able to get into my studio and do some painting. Teaching full time again takes so much time outside of school that I never seem to have any big blocks of time to get in there and get creative. But now that school is out for the summer I can finally get in there when I want to. I was in such a good, sunny mood on Sunday when I went in there that I decided to do a mixed media painting of a very sunny-looking flower! This is the result of my day's painting frenzy. 

I primarily used acrylics for this, but I also added a little bit of Prismacolors colored pencils here and there, along with some paint pen accents. This is 11x14. I tend to work smaller when I'm not doing oils, because I work on my counter, which isn't very deep. So I try to make sure I work on a canvas that fits onto my counter space. I generally gravitate toward square canvases, but the 11x14 was calling to me yesterday.

Not sure what I'll paint next, but I was just thrilled to be able to get into my studio again!

Dylan's Sunflower Digital Art

In the past I shared a photo of my grandson Dylan's Sunflower. I've always loved that sunflower he planted. So I was flipping through some of my photos and digital art and decided to share this digital art that I created from one of those photos of his sunflower.

Sunflowers are such happy flowers, don't you think? I still have some seeds from this one somewhere. I need to find them and plant some again with Dylan!

Sunnyflowers

One of the things I love best about summer (since I don't like the heat--or the fact that my A/C has been on for a month and a half!) is the beautiful flowers I see all the time. I saw this beautiful sunflower outside of a restaurant recently.

You have to find the beauty in the little things all around you every day. Am I right?!

Sunflower Friendship Mixed Media

I made a special mixed media painting for a very dear friend recently. I waited to post it until she'd received it, and now that she has I want to share it with all of you. My friend, Connie recently moved into a new home in Tennessee, and she loves sunflowers. So this was created especially for her.

I used lots of torn scrapbook paper, acrylic paints and paint pens, stencils, and some paper elements too. I always love making things for other people. It seems like the paintings I love the most are the ones I make as gifts for friends and family. Connie says that she has a sunflower-themed guest room, and that is where this painting will go. I hope it brings a little sunshine to everyone who sleeps in that room. :)

Sunflower Digital Art

I decided to start sharing and selling my art on Fine Art America's site. I've been a member of that site for awhile but have never sold anything on there before, so I thought I'd give it a try. I Got Sunshine

I've created another piece for My Digital Sketchbook, and this one is based on photos I took of my grandson's sunflowers a couple of years ago. I love playing around with photos and turning them into something different.

Something about sunflowers just says Sunshine! I love them.
