Believe Fairy Visual Journal

In my ongoing effort to get my creative juices flowing again, I’ve decided to start a brand new Visual Journal. I’m calling it Believe, and it will be filled mostly with fairy and fantasy-related art, doodles, prose, poetry, doodles, and what-nots. I’ve only done the cover so far.

Believe Fairy Visual Journal

I’ve always believed in fairies. I can prove they exist, because they are constantly stealing socks from my dryer! So I figured, why not devote an entire visual journal to them? Do YOU believe in fairies?

There’s so much magic in the world of fairy, after all. It’s a sort of wonderful, magical Neverland, waiting to be explored on the pages of my journal. A place where dreams come true, and a place where anything is possible. I think my mom is guiding me to this…to a place that will let me forget my troubles and find some sunshine. If I just close my eyes, my inspiration will be waiting…and I can hear her saying…

You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming?

That’s where I’ll always love you…that’s where I’ll be waiting.

Trailer Trash

I never really understood the terms, trailer trash or white trash, until it moved in next door to me. Now it greets me on an almost daily basis with loud, obscene “music” playing from speakers pointed directly at my house. It would take me far too long to explain the freak that is my next door neighbor here in this post, so if you have interest, feel free to visit my personal blog.

But when I decided to start my Button Book, there’s no way I could leave the freak next door out of it. I probably should have put him at the front of the visual journal! But I didn’t really want to see that first thing, each time I open it. So I just stuck it in randomly.

Lipstick

What can I say? I cannot stand lipstick…or “yuckstick,” as I affectionately refer to it. It’s disgusting. It tastes gross. I don’t even think I’ve ever owned a tube of lipstick, and I doubt I ever will. Flavored lip gloss (on rare occasions) is the closest I get to wearing lipstick.  So this odd pet peeve of mine had to appear in my Button Book visual journal.

Too Much Makeup

OK, one of my pet peeves for sure is when women wear too much makeup. I can’t stand it, nor do I understand it. So I had to dedicate a page to it in my visual journal.  (If I had all the money some women spend on makeup in a year, I could probably pay off my car.)

When Time Flies

The older I get, the faster time seems to fly, and I don’t like it one but. It really pushes my buttons! So this page in my visual journal is dedicated to something I cannot stand:  when time flies.

Holes In Socks

Something that has always been a pet peeve and managed to push my buttons is holes in socks, so I had to  include this in my visual journal. I can’t stand socks with holes in them. I also can’t stand sewing them! And is it just me, or do socks just not last as long as they used to? I think the manufacturers make them so that they wear out sooner or something! (Disclaimer: any resemblance to your leg or anyone else’s is purely coincidental and unintentional.)

Baggy Pants

I’ve never understand the appeal of baggy pants. Seems that somewhere along the way, boys and men of all ages decided it was some sort of fashion statement to have their pants drooped down around their thighs, allowing their underwear to be exposed.  What gives? And exactly what kind of fashion statement is that making, other than the obvious: that your pants are too big and you need a belt. I will never understand this fad, and it really pushes my buttons. It’s like a disease or something (BPD–Baggy Pants Disease). So I had to include it as a page in this visual journal.

The Button Book

I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Visual Journaling, which is, simply put, a means of expressing yourself fearlessly with pictures and (sometimes) words. I say fearlessly because that’s the whole point: to emote and create without fear. No worrying about how good something looks or how “perfect.” No rules. No limits. No art police coming to tell you what you can do or not do. Just absolute creative freedom and expression.  What’s not to love about that?!

I have a few visual journals going at the moment, and ideas for lots more. Visual Journals are great when they are based on themes, because they help you focus and tie the content together…not that you have to do that, but if you like to you certainly can. One of my journals is called The Button Book, and its theme is basically pet peeves, or anything that pushes my buttons, so to speak.  I got the idea from one of many books I’m amassing on Visual Journaling and Artist Journals.

So I’ll be adding posts to this category any time I add a page or two to my Button Book. Hope you enjoy them!
