One Yellow Rose Digital Collage

I was creating this piece for my Mom, whom we found out has cancer. Initially I created it with just the flower, but then decided to add a little magic, and the fairy and turn it into a digital collage. When I’d finished all that I realized that it would also just happen to work with the Gingersnap Creations blog color challenge, Soft Yellows and White. So I decided to enter it into that challenge.

Yellow roses have special meaning in our family, as does the phrase, “Never Apart in Heart.” We sign our emails, letters, and cards with NAIH as a reminder that no matter how far apart we may be, we are always together in heart. So even though I can’t physically be with my mom right now, I am with her, always. And thankfully, doing anything creative helps to keep my mind off of difficult things. So this art is for you, Mom.

I Love You.

Always.

Smooth Criminal Magic Art

I haven’t been participating in too many art challenges lately so I decided it is time to get my creative juices flowing again. This week’s challenge at Collage Obsession couldn’t have come at a better time. The theme for this week is a Song Lyric…so I chose one of my Michael Jackson favorites, Smooth Criminal and created a digital collage around it.

Smooth Criminal Magic Art

Michael Jackson defined the word “Epic” where pop music and music videos are concerned, in my opinion. He blazed a trail and set the standard in what once was a very boring visual medium. And Smooth Criminal is a perfect example of his epic creative genius. It is MJ, and the Bad era, at its visual best. It not only showcased a great song, but it told a story, as all of Michael’s short films did. I never get tired of watching it…and my grandson now loves to watch it with me. He especially likes the MJ  anti-gravity “lean.” Such an epic MJ moment.

And so the legend lives on. :)

These Are Our Hands

I wanted to make something special for my daughter for Christmas this year, and I also wanted it to be something that would be from her children to her. I got inspired by something I saw on Pinterest awhile back that involved scanning kids hands. So that is what I did, and this is what I turned that scan into with some digital magic…

These Are Our Hands Art

I altered the color and layered in some digital art to create this piece. Then I sent the final image to the CanvasPeople website and had them print it onto canvas and frame it. It turned out even better than I expected, and my daughter seemed to really love it. I also included with it the following poem (which I had my grandson write out on the card):

These are our hands

You used to hold

When we were 8

and 2 Years old.

I had so much fun creating this for her…even if it was incredibly challenging to get two little hands to hold still long enough to be scanned–especially since my scanner software was acting up that day and we had to do it 3 times before we got it right! But it was well worth it in the end.

MJ Stars Digital Collage

I was having so much fun creating my starry night-themed angel tag yesterday for the Gingersnap Creations challenge that I decided to do another one. This time I used MJ as my subject though.

MJ Stars Digital Collage

This is kind of a combination of My Digital Sketchbook technique that I like to use, along with the image layering I use in Digital Collages. So now I have a brand new addition to my growing collection of Michael Jackson Art. And if fits in with the starry night theme too. :)

The Legend of Billie Jean

Time for some more Michael Jackson Art to satisfy my MJ art cravings for awhile. :) My inspiration for this piece is one of Michael’s legendary performances…Billie Jean.

Michael Jackson Billie Jean

Michael was pure magic (to me anyway) so I always like to add a little touch of magic to my MJ digital art. And I’m always mesmerized by any of his legendary Billie Jean performances. The fedora. The sparkle jacket. The white glove. He defined the word MAGIC, and gave new meaning to the word EPIC. My digital art can’t even do justice to how much he inspires me.

But I try.

I Run With Vampires Collage

This Digital Collage was inspired by Twilight and this week’s Window challenge at the Three Muses blog. With Breaking Dawn hitting theaters next week, I couldn’t be more excited. So it was fun to create this piece inspired by the Twilight saga, and my favorite vampire.

I Run With Vampires Digital Collage

I wanted this to be a bit dark (hence the blood on the window), but also keep a real Twilight feel to it, while adding my own little touches as well. See you soon, Edward.

Panther Dance Collage

It’s time for another great digital collage challenge at Collage Obsession. The theme this time is Black Cats. So the first thing that came to mind for me was the Michael Jackson Panther Dance sequence from his Black or White short film. It’s one of my favorite short films, and I love the Panther Dance itself. I remember when that video first came out, there was so much controversy surrounding it–people thought it was too violent. But that was the point: Michael was making a statement about all the inequality, prejudice, and violence in the world. All of Michael’s short films told a story, and some, like Black or White, carried important messages...IF one was willing to pay attention and read between the lines. Michael caught a lot of flack for that short film, but for the people with an open mind and heart,  and a willingness to see and hear its message, it was very powerful. And it truly is one of his best short films.

So this Digital Collage is dedicated to Michael Jackson, and the Panther Dance.

The Cat Behind the Door Collage

I haven’t been entering too many art challenges lately, so I was feeling the need to join in again. Luckily I came across the Three Muses Doorways challenge last night, and that inspired me to create this Digital Collage: The Cat Behind the Door.

Cat Behind the Door Digital Collage

It’s basically an old lady who lives in an old house with her old cat. And then there’s this little mouse who likes to tease and taunt the old cat, because he can play outside while the cat cannot. OK, well, that’s the story that I came up with in my head once I found a vintage photo I wanted to work with for this digital collage. It works, I think.

Witch and Owl Digital ATC

I wanted to do some more Altered Art today, and I’m still working digitally right now. And since I’m still kind of in Halloween and witch mode, I thought I’d create another ATC with a Halloween theme.

Witch and Owl Digital ATCI guess you could really just consider it a Digital Collage too. Either one applies, after all. I knew I wanted to use this particular vintage photo I had of a witch, so I added everything else to complement that for Boo Day. Purple and orange always looks so good together, and they’re perfect for Halloween. She’s not exactly a scary witch, but she does fit the holiday!

BeWitched Digital ATC

I’ve been having Halloween on the brain for some reason, which is funny since I really don’t care that much for Halloween–outside of seeing my grandkids in their costumes, of course. But since my mind is stuck in Halloween mode, I thought I’d create a digital ATC with a witch theme.

BeWitched ATCShe’s a rather pretty witch, don’t you think? :) I love the colors of Fall and Halloween, so that inspired me for this Digital Collage more than anything else. I love how it turned out.
