My Favorite Fairy

My husband got me the new Paint Shop Pro software for Christmas, and I finally just got to start playing around with it. I had an older version on my laptop, so I am already familiar with the basics of PSP (though I am by no means a pro). I haven’t gotten to explore the new version in depth, but I wanted to take it for a test drive. So I decided that my granddaughter, Destiny is always the perfect subject. I had lots of fun turning her into a fairy, and then putting my new little fairy into two different surroundings. These digital collages are the results.

I love my  little Destiny fairy in a jar. The photo I used is from last Easter. I need to play around with some newer photos. :) But I loved in that dress, so I figured I’d just use it again for experimenting in PSP. I sure had fun!

John at The Lake

My time in my studio has slowed down such a great deal the last month or two. I’m hoping that will change come this fall; but for now, when I am unable to spend the hours I’d like to getting down and dirty in the studio, I focus my creative energies on my digital art. It’s kind of funny too, because I never thought I’d be one to get so excited doing digital art. But I really do absolutely positively love it! I hope you enjoy my creations a bit too.

This digital sketch I’ve created is from a photo I took of the Hubs at Lake Michigan last year. We always try to spend a weekend by the water somewhere for our anniversary each year, so this was one of those trips.

Ahh, memories. That’s the stuff, isn’t it?

I Do Believe in Fairies

I’m sure it’s fairly clear by now that I love taking pictures of my granddaughter. I also have a thing for fairies. And it must be equally clear that I’m rather obsessed with digital photos and digital art right now. So please forgive me if I post another digital image creation of my granddaughter. Or should I say, the fairy who looks just like her…

I absolutely love how this turned out.  My husband even requested a printed version of it. Believe me, THAT is a compliment. And somehow I think there are more fairy photos in my future. ;)

It’s Destiny

It’s been nearly a month since I’ve been able to get into my studio. So unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do much creating of late. I’ve only been doing digital art during that time, mostly of Michael Jackson, since he’s pretty  much my favorite subject matter these days. :) But I did do one edit of a photo I took of my granddaughter, Destiny, on Easter. Thought I’d share that since I haven’t been able to share much else lately.

Destiny on Easter

I decided to make the background of the photo black and white, and leave Destiny in color to make her really pop out more. I love how it turned out. And I know I am not impartial, but doesn’t she look adorable in her Easter dress? ;)

I’m quite fond of using this technique in my digital work. It’s really a great way to add emphasis to almost any photo. Just so you can see some more of my work using this technique, here are a couple of edits I did of photos of MJ. I post all of my MJ edits on my ArtChick4MJ blog, if you have interest in seeing more of what I do there.

When I can’t get into my studio, digital art is my creative outlet and refuge. Whether it’s just editing digital photos or creating different types of digital collage or other digital art, it’s what gets me through until I can get into my studio again.

MJ Smile Digital Collage

This week’s Collage Obsession Challenge is Tramp. The creation has to feature either an image of Charlie Chaplin as The Tramp, or it has to express the word “Tramp” in some other way. As soon as I saw this theme, I knew exactly what I’d be doing. But before I share it with you, I need to share with you a little bit of trivia about Michael Jackson and Charlie Chaplin.

  • Michael Jackson was a huge Charlie Chaplin fan.
  • MJ loved the song, Smile, which was composed by Charlie Chaplin.
  • Michael recorded Smile in 1995, but he never performed it live. However, near the end of his History tour, the song was played at the beginning of the concert, in memory of Princess Diana.
  • Smile was sung at MJ’s Memorial on July 7, 2009, by his brother, Jermaine.  Michael’s version of the song then hit the Billboard Hot 100 Digital Songs, along with the UK and Swiss singles charts.
  • In addition to being a musical artist, Michael was also a visual artist.
  • Michael drew Charlie Chaplin many times.

So for my Tramp-themed project, I used a photo of Michael Jackson, who is dressed as The Tramp. I did some filtering to enhance the image, then I added a sunflower-like flower to his lapel (because Michael liked sunflowers) for a little pop of color. I also added a line from the song, Smile. And I added an antique photo effect to give the collage an aged appearance.

I hope you like this addition to my growing collection of Michael Jackson Art. I loved creating it!

Dylan’s Hero

Time for another entry in the Twisted Fate Photography blog’s photo challenge. This week’s theme is Heroes. So my entry is Dylan’s Hero.

Dylan's Hero

Dylan is my grandson, who is about 4 in this photo (he’s 7 now). Dylan’s hero (or at least one of them) is his grandpa, who also happens to be my hubby, John. John has always been there for Dylan..takes him everywhere and does all sorts of fun guy things with. Dylan loves to do all the stuff his grandpa does, whether it’s fishing, camping, fixing something in the house, or crawling underneath the house!

I love watching Dylan and John together. And it truly warms my heart to be blessed with such a wonderful grandson, whom we get to see as often as we’d like–since he only lives two houses behind us! He and his sister, Destiny are the lights of our life!
