Pretty in Pink Hangtag

I am in altered art hangtags mode for some reason. I love creating them though because I often need a little hangtag to add to a gift for some occasion or another. So for me, I can never have too many of them lying around. This one is called Pretty in Pink.

These hangtags are made with cardstock scrapbook paper with a really pretty pink and white pattern on it. I cut them out with a scalloped-edge cutter. Then I added white paper flowers to the bottom half of them, attaching them with brass brads. All I did to finish them off was add some pink satin ribbon, along with site whit organdy ribbon. So pretty and so simple and easy to make!

Imagine Face Hangtag

This is a new altered art hangtag I’ve created that I’m calling Imagine Face Hangtag.

These are tags I created on two-sided scrapbook cardstock paper, which I cut out using a tag-shaped cutter. I stamped on the image of a vintage face using black ink first. Then I created the torn edge and distressed strip for the upper part of the tag, which I stamped on with the word, Imagine in black ink. After I added that I just added a butterfly sticker and then finished it with a brown satin ribbon.

I love the combination of the brown ribbon with the turquoise pattern on the paper. It’s just a simple, elegant tag (I think). Perfect to add to a little gift.

Vintage Rose

In the summer issue of Somerset Life that I picked up over the weekend, there is a wonderful tutorial for making vintage roses out of coffee filters. I’ve done a Coffee Filter Roses Tutorial in the past, but that one was for a much quicker and simpler rose–one that is easier and less realistic. The one is Somerset is much more realistic.

I am always on the lookout for new flower tutorials and I loved theirs so I had to try it out. It was time-consuming to make, but it turned out so pretty…even if it wasn’t as pretty as the ones in the magazine.

I wouldn’t want to make a bunch of these, just because they take so long to make. But they really are pretty and would look so nice just sitting in a vase–one all by itself, or two or three. And they would make really nice gifts too, which is what the designer in the magazine was using them for. They’re very affordable to make too since you’re just using coffee filters and things you probably already have one hand.

Go Fish Altered Hangtag

Not sure really what inspired this Go Fish altered hangtag, but I had fun making it.

I started out with a large, plain white hangtag, which I stamped with a text design using black ink. Then I used some scrap wallpaper to add the wave element on the left side (top) of the tag. Next I drew a simple fish shape onto some textured blue scrapbook paper; into that, I drew the letters that spell out the word FISH, leaving a little space in between each letter so that I could cut them out. Then I cut out the letters and glued them onto the hangtag, spelling out the word FISH and also creating the shape of a fish. I added some smaller paper fish shapes that I drew and cut out, and also some punched paper holes. And I finished it off with a brad for the fish’s eye, and just a bit of blue ink on the edges for a distressed look.

Say Cheese Altered Kraft Envelope

I was feeling like doing some Altered Art when I was finally able to make it into my studio for a couple of hours. And since I have a whole bunch of Kraft envelopes out there, I thought I’d go ahead and alter one of those. My Say Cheese project is the result.

I started by using some Tea Dye Distress Ink all over the envelope, adding extra to the edges. I wanted it to look fairly grungy. Next I added some blue patterned scrap paper across the top. Then I added a vintage photo of some lovely ladies, who look to me like they’re having their photo taken. I added some alpha stickers on the photo to spell out “Smile, Marcy.” I used some Tim Holtz clear film down the right side to go with the photo theme and also added a flower near the top of the envelope. Then at the bottom I added my Say Cheese paper sentiment, along with a camera image and a button. Granted, the button doesn’t make much sense. But it’s blue and I just needed something with color down there.

Your Beach or Mine ATC

I had so much fun altering an existing Altered Art piece recently (Altered Mona Hangtag) that I decided to do it again for the City Crafter By the Sea Challenge.

I took my original Life’s a Beach ATC, which is made out of paper products, and I altered it digitally to become a new ATC, Your Beach or Mine. It’s really fun to take something made out of paper and then use digital means to alter it into something new. It lets me combine two different art passions, Altered Art and digital art, into one medium. I was glad I could stretch those skills a bit for this challenge!

Altered Mona Hangtag

Last year I created a Mona Lisa hangtag…I love using famous artworks in my own projects! So when I saw the recent 3 Muses Challenge, Altered Mona, I thought I’d have fun and actually digitally alter my existing What Mona Wants Altered Hangtag to turn it into new artwork for this challenge. And this is my result…

This was really fun! Since I can’t get into my studio right now, altering some existing altered art in a digital way was the perfect solution. And it still let me be creative, which is so important to me, even when I’m crunched for time! Hope you like it too.

Discovery ATC

This ATC is my final project as a visiting artist for the month of April at the Gingersnap Creations blog. The theme for this color challenge was Red and Gold.

I started with a piece of ATC-sized illustration board, which I covered with a piece of scrap wallpaper that is a metallic gold color. Next I added the Discover vellum paper embellishment and the red ribbon near the bottom. I added a 3-D bird cutout, and also another egg cutout to repeat the one on the vellum image. And I finished it off with some red rhinestone gems on each of the top corners of the ATC.

I really enjoyed my time as visiting artist. It helped me stretch my wings a bit as an artist and step out of my comfort zone a bit too, which is always a good thing to do as an artist.

Fan and Kimono Collage

This week is another Far East Challenge at the Gingersnap Creations Blog where I am a visiting artist for the month. The theme for this challenge was Fans, so I’ve created a Fan and Kimono Collage.

I started with a patterned piece of pastel green scrapbook cardstock paper., which I tore and distressed at the bottom, and did some decorative corners at the top. Then I stamped on an Asian paper lantern image and a dragonfly image in black ink. I also added a patterned circle, which is supposed to represent the sun. Next I created the Kimono out of some pretty cardstock, layering the paper and adding black as an accent color. I also added a black flower gem to the back of the Kimono before I attached it to the background using 3-D O’s to make it appear in relief. I added a folded paper fan to the sun image, and I also added a gem to the stamped lantern.

I think this is my favorite piece so far of the Far East projects I’ve done as a visiting artist. I just really like the Kimono, and I like how all the colors and patterns work together in this piece.
